The short answer
Raised bowls let a senior cat eat without lowering their head to the floor. Choose a stand that lifts the bowl two to four inches, keeps it tilted slightly toward your cat, and holds wide shallow dishes that do not press on whiskers.

Why we like it: Raising the bowl a few inches takes strain off the neck and shoulders, and a slight tilt means your cat barely has to lower their head to reach the food.
Stiffness in the neck and shoulders makes a floor-level bowl genuinely hard work. Cats with discomfort will eat a few mouthfuls and walk away, which owners often read as fussiness. Raising the bowl removes the effort.
Two to four inches of lift is enough for most cats. A slight tilt reduces how far they have to lower their head. Wide, shallow dishes rather than deep narrow ones, because whiskers pressing on a rim puts some cats off. Ceramic is heavier and tips less.
Keep water low and easy to reach. Never make a cat climb to drink, and keep both food and water in a quiet spot where they are not rushed.
